Payroll Assistant

We are now seeking a Payroll Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated People Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is detail focused, proactive, and looking to develop their payroll and HR administration skills within a supportive environment.
Job Description:
As a Payroll Assistant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring our employees are paid correctly and on time. You will support the Payroll Manager with a range of administrative and payroll tasks, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and customer service.
You will also assist the wider HR team with employee data administration, becoming a key point of contact for system queries and payroll-related questions.
Main Responsibilities:
Create and maintain accurate employee payroll records.
Calculate salaries, deductions, and adjustments using timesheets and attendance data.
Complete payroll tasks within the Sage People Payroll system, including absence entry, detailed checks, and manual calculations.
Prepare payroll spreadsheets and assist with importing data.
Respond promptly and professionally to payroll queries from employees and managers.
Act as a Super User for IRIS Staffology HR:
Add new starters, process leavers, maintain records, and run reports.
Manage induction documentation in collaboration with the Recruitment team.
Act as a Super User for Rotacloud:
Maintain employee records and ensure up-to-date data.
Run exception reports and liaise with site managers on absence and clocking issues.
Manage the Care Friends employee referral platform, including adding new starters, approving payments, and running reports.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Manage documentation related to parking fines, speeding fines, probation reviews, and contract amendments.
Coordinate employee health scheme membership and liaise with suppliers.
Produce ad hoc payroll reports when required.
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and internal policies.
Embrace continuous professional development and contribute to process improvements.
Experience & Skills
Proven experience in a payroll administration role.
Strong computer literacy, especially Excel.
Experience using HR or payroll systems.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify numerical errors.
Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Resilient, adaptable, and proactive with a positive attitude.
Desirable
Relevant professional payroll or HR qualification (not essential).
