Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll & Bookkeeping Officer (Payroll Admin & Bookkeeper) to join our growing team. This role combines end-to-end payroll processing with bookkeeping services for a range of clients across different sectors. The successful candidate will ensure accuracy, compliance, and a high level of client service in all financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll:
- Manage weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients.
- Process new starters, leavers, and employee changes.
- Handle statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP) and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Submit RTI returns and pension contributions via relevant portals.
- Communicate with clients regarding payroll queries and ensure timely issue of payslips and reports.
Bookkeeping:
- Maintain accurate financial records using cloud accounting platforms (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Reconcile bank accounts, process invoices, and manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepare VAT returns and support clients with Making Tax Digital compliance.
- Support the preparation of management accounts and year-end reporting.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll and bookkeeping (preferably in an accountancy practice).
- Proficiency in cloud accounting software (Xero preferred).
- Strong understanding of HMRC requirements and payroll legislation.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client deadlines efficiently.
- Experience with pension auto-enrolment and payroll portals.
- Familiarity with payroll bureau systems.
