About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll Administrator to join our team on a full‑time basis. This role is ideal for a graduate or someone looking to take their first step into a payroll or HR administration career.

We are an acquisitions‑focused business, meaning we regularly acquire new companies. As a result, our payroll responsibilities continue to grow with each acquisition. Over the past year, the number of UK companies we manage payroll for has increased from 14 to 25, and this number is expected to continue rising.

To support this growth, we are looking for a Payroll Administrator who will support the payroll team with day‑to‑day payroll administration while developing their knowledge and experience as the business continues to expand.

Your primary focus will be supporting payroll operations, helping to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, maintaining organised and accurate records, and providing administrative support to the wider payroll function.

This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a willingness to learn payroll processes. Full training and support will be provided.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their career to develop practical payroll experience within a growing organisation.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the preparation and checking of payroll input data before submission to our payroll provider, ensuring the correct information and documentation has been provided. Where information is missing, you will follow up with relevant stakeholders to obtain this ahead of payroll deadlines.

  • Support the monthly payroll process to help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time across our portfolio of companies.

  • Maintain and update payroll records, including new starters, leavers, salary changes, and employee deductions.

  • Accurately enter and maintain employee data within payroll systems.

  • Support the administration of statutory payments, including SSP and SMP, with guidance and training provided.

  • Respond to employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner, escalating more complex queries where appropriate.

  • Assist in preparing payroll documentation and reports for internal stakeholders.

  • Carry out initial checks on payroll preview reports to confirm submitted changes have been processed correctly by the payroll provider prior to final approval.

  • Support payroll team communication with business unit leaders, helping to track queries and ensure responses are followed up.

  • Help ensure internal stakeholders meet payroll deadlines by following up on outstanding submissions where required.

  • Update and maintain payroll tracking systems to provide clear visibility of payroll activity throughout the pay cycle.

  • Work with our payroll service provider to help resolve queries and ensure payroll processes run smoothly.

  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure payroll information is accurate and up to date.

  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.

  • Support general administrative tasks related to payroll operations.
