Summary


  • This is a 3-month contract opportunity with a local authority, offering a rate of £23.11 per hour under an umbrella arrangement. The Payroll & Finance Officer plays a crucial role in delivering precise and efficient payroll and financial support services. The position ensures adherence to statutory requirements and financial regulations. The officer will oversee payroll processes, maintain financial records, assist in budgetary control, and offer professional financial advice to both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities


  • Oversee payroll reconciliation processes to ensure transactions are accurate and balanced.
  • Authorize BACS payments and other payroll-related financial transactions following established financial procedures.
  • Maintain records of payroll deductions and ensure timely payments to statutory and third-party organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, NI, pensions, IR35, P11D, and other legislative requirements.
  • Provide advice and guidance on payroll and financial matters to managers, employees, customers, and external organizations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary information and supporting documentation.

Requirements:


Essential Experience Required


  • Proven experience in a payroll, finance, or accounting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in processing payroll and managing payroll-related activities.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Experience in offering advice and support on payroll or finance-related issues.
  • Experience in ensuring compliance with payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

Essential Qualifications Required


  • A professional qualification in Finance, Payroll, Accountancy, or a related field; or
  • Equivalent relevant experience supported by ongoing professional development.

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
  • Location: Coventry (Hybrid)
  • Payment schedule: Bi-weekly
